We have been reading the book “Once” by Morris Gleitzman, about a Polish boy who escaped from an orphanage during the Second World War. We wrote a story about his journey in search of his parents. We have also written non-chronological reports about how civilians kept safe on the home front during the Blitz, learning all about air raids, blackouts, air raid shelters and evacuation.
Mathematics & Numeracy
We have been learning about writing different sized numbers and adding & subtracting using a range of mental strategies. We have been learning to multiply numbers using the grid method and divide numbers by chunking along a number line.
We visited the Regimental museum for the Royal Welsh, to experience the WW2 workshop and find out what it was like to be a child living during the Second World War. We imagined what it would be like to be an evacuee and used Google Docs online to type a fictional letter from an evacuee. We also loved painting pictures of the London Blitz.
