This term we have been exploring ‘Operation Ouch’. We have been looking at what to do in an emergency, basic first aid and how to stay healthy.
Language, Literacy and Communication
We began our topic by reading the book ‘Avocado Baby’ by John Burningham. Where a baby becomes extremely strong by eating an avocado every day and helps save the children from some nasty bullies. We have been learning about 999 calls and writing instructions about what do to in an emergency.
Mathematics and Numeracy
In maths we have been looking at number bonds to 20 and 100. We have also been partitioning 2 digit numbers and we have started to use the bar model method to work help us when finding out the answers to maths problems.
St. Johns ambulance service came in to our school to give us basic first aid training. We learned how to keep calm, safe and how to deal with emergency situations. We also learned what do to if someone is choking and how to put someone in the recovery position. We have been comparing Christian churches and Mosques and we have got creative by using different mediums to create line and shape.
