Pantomime Visit
The school have kindly purchased tickets, for all pupils in classes Reception to Year 6, to attend the Congress Theatre to watch a performance of Puss in Boots this Christmas. The visit will take place within normal school hours, but pupils will have a slightly earlier lunch than usual.

Merry Maendymas
Thank you to our new Friends of Maendy members who have attended meetings in the past week to arrange our Christmas Fete. There will be lots to see and do at the event, and all classes will be working on a product to sell on a stall. The event will operate in a similar way to the Summer Fete, whereby the learners will be collected from classes from 2pm and taken around by a guardian. Money raised will be put towards FPh and KS2 Christmas parties.

Welsh Phrase of the Fortnight

We continue to encourage everyone to use Welsh throughout the week.  We are trying to use simple familiar phrases to help develop our speaking skills. Please encourage your child to speak Welsh as much as they can out of school.

Our Welsh phrase of the week for this coming week will be:
Nadolig Llawen – Merry Christmas

Maendy is a ‘Rights Respecting School’.  The United Nation Article 28 states ‘every child has the right to have a primary education’. We are linking our attendance performance to this article.

Absences and Lates
All absences must be reported to our school office by 9:00am by leaving a message either at the office or by telephone. We thank you again for your co-operation with this matter. Any children arriving late to school must be taken directly to the school office by the parent.

Our school target is 95.5%. The school’s current attendance record is 94.9%. Below is the weekly attendance for all year groups:

Nursery 81.6% Reception 93.6% Year 1/2B 92.8% Year 1/2K 95.9%

Year 3 96.6% Year 4 94.4% Year 5 93.8% Year 6 96.5% SNRB 93.4%

This year, Torfaen Council’s education service have launched a ‘Strive for 95!’ initiative to improve pupil attendance and reduce unauthorised absence in all Torfaen schools. Every pupil who achieves 95% attendance or higher during each school term will be entered into a prize draw at the end of the school year to win £50 of high street vouchers. Please see Torfaen’s website for further details; https://www.torfaen.gov.uk/en/EducationLearning/SchoolsColleges/AttendanceBehaviourWelfare/AttendanceatSchool/School-Attendance.aspx
